The celebrated artist, the servant of the Italian Commedia dell’ Arte, whose name stands for “small devil”, the lonely hero with the characteristic white-orange fur!
Truffaldino’s mask is surrounded by mystery. There have been reports that it was a discovery by Michelangelo himself, who designed it with inspiration from ancient satyrs. Harlequin’s mask is acting like a… Mona Lisa. Sometimes it gives the impression of a “devil”, while some other times that of naiveness.
At the theatrical stage, Harlequin is a rather naive servant who advises his master usually erroneously, which leads him to trouble. His love for Columbina is a repeated motive for his actions. During about 16th century, the character of his mask get more elements of “intelligence”, gets alive and leaves behind the old face of naiveness.
Our Truffaldino or otherwise our “little devil” if you prefer his meaning in Italian, is happy, playful and loves good food! What is certain with him is that you will never get bored with his games!
